Rendering

Plastering
What’s the difference between plastering and rendering? Primarily rendering is involved with the coating of external walls to prevent weathering and damage. Plastering on the other hand uses different mixes and coats to produce an acceptable wall or ceiling finish to a building before decoration.
Our highly skilled plasterers use traditional hand tools to complete most work in 3 coats, consisting of a scratch coat to even out suction, a float coat to give an even surface and a finishing coat to produce a smooth finish ready for decoration.
However not all finished walls need be flat and smooth or finished in the traditional clay colour. We can also provide unique textural finishes for your project or use pigmented topcoats to add some colour to your finished walls.
Scratch back render
External wall insulation
One of the affordable decorative render finishes we can provide at GK Rend is scratch rendering. This is a new rendering technique that is normally used with coloured cement to create a render.
It involves coating the wall with two coats, firstly a scratch coat, which is then lightly scratched or scored with a specialist tool before the final coat is applied. This coat is thicker than the first. It is flattened before being given a final scratch.
Scratch render incorporates silicone technology so it has a high degree of water repellency, it has a choice of over 40 colours so doesn’t need to be painted and is very easily maintained.
