What is rendering?
The external walls of your house are prone to damage caused by the weather. Rain, wind, frost, snow and direct sunlight can all erode and degrade bricks and blocks, leading to damp or crumbling walls.
External rendering of walls gives them protection, meaning they have a longer life and over time will need less maintenance. The team at GK Rend offers affordable rendering solutions to help you deal with potential deterioration to your outside walls, whether on a new build or older property. Depending on what rendering option you need our expert rendering team will cover the exterior wall surface with a sand and cement render, a lime based render or a synthetic resin based colour render. Specialist Rendering ServicesMany older properties were built using a traditional lime render. In fact it was the most common way of rendering buildings over 70 years ago and is one of the oldest building techniques still in common use. As many of those buildings are restored or renovated they require traditional renders and techniques to meet heritage or aesthetic requirements.
GK Rend's experience in lime rendering is second to none - making them your first choice trusted contractor. Please get in touch to discuss your lime render needs. |

Scratch Rendering
One of the affordable decorative render finishes we can provide at GK Rend is scratch rendering. This is a new rendering technique that we normally use with coloured cement to create a render that gives a property a modern finish. It involves coating the wall with two coats, firstly a scratch coat, which is then lightly scratched or scored with a specialist tool called a plasterers scarifier before the final coat is applied. This coat is thicker than the first. It is flattened before being given a final scratch.
Scratch render incorporates silicone technology so it has a high degree of water repellency. There is a choice of over 40 colours. It doesn’t need to be painted and is very easily maintained.

Monocouche & K-Rend
One of the options we offer is the Monocouche render system.
Monocouche renders provide a decorative finish to the outside of buildings, providing both weather protection and decoration. The name comes from the French term for single layer, these renders are modern single coat renders, which we apply by hand or machine. They are colour pigmented throughout which means no building painting is needed. Monocouche renders are low maintenance, weather resistant, hard wearing and have an attractive finish, suitable for a large range of external brick and block work properties.
We also offer the K-Rend range of silicone coloured renders.
The K-Rend silicone range incorporates silicone water repellents as an integral part of the cement based render system. Because of the silicone technology there is a high degree of water repellency to the render surface, which also allows water vapour to pass through the render allowing the substrate to breathe.
The K-rend water repellent surface ensures a freshly rendered appearance for a prolonged period. The finish is drier and therefore more resistant to algae growth and lime bloom. It also comes in an extensive colour range.

External damp proofing
Many older buildings have permeable walls, which allow damp to penetrate through them, so they are prone to mould. GK Rend is a trusted external damp proofing contractor who can help you address this issue without changing the external appearance of your property.
